One in a Million – a New Musical – Review by Marcello Rollando

“When good friends gamble, what could go wrong?”

This KPD Production is a video podcast of three co-producers talking about how they met and how that led to the two-week Off-Broadway production of their new musical:  One in a Million

After a brief montage of Manhattan’s Theater District with gimmickry camera transitional fading from black and white into living color, the trio of Broadway hopefuls settle into a living room setting for a, meet the producers, hosted by Robert Rivera Jr. (Media Production Professional), with some awe inspiring revelations garnered from a two-week Off-Broadway run of, One in a Million!

This hope-filled “Documentary” in truth, is more a personal unscripted collaborative devotional appreciation of each other.  The three co-producers Musician/Storyteller Kevin Davis, Character Actor/Writer/Producer Joel Roman (who you may recognize from Dockweiler or as Joey Rodriguez in Precinct 757) and Actor Margie Santos (CEO of Synergy Worldwide Entertainment) share memories of the origin of their spiritual driven connection.

Higher and higher, their mutual faith in the talent of their ascending trinity for, One in a Million – although firmly reality grounded – manifests their true faith in the Divine synergy that brought them together.

In less than an hour, Kevin, Margie and Joel, wearing their heartfelt faith on collective sleeves (as the crowning glory of their unique theatrical mission), which both holds up a mirror to what divides us, not only in 21st Century American society but in the community (or lack thereof) of “the church” as writ large, by whatever lights their pathway from Off-Broadway to Broadway.

Both their shared faith and presumably new musical – presumably, because with the exception of too few production photos – the focus of this “documentary” is the collective faith of these three producers determined to solve – as much as backers and investors’ contributions will allow – through their combined conviction that their faith in God has created a, One in a Million new musical “with twenty songs, lots of dances and comedy,” that exhilarates.

Whether Evangelical in big city churches once a week or small-town believers attending little churches every day; whether MIA agnostics or atheists, this inspired trio insists, One in a Million promises you will exit the theater transformed by their lyrics to songs in your heart, dancing to J. C. is My Life and laughing with Joel Roman’s high energy comedy, all the way to the Pearly Gates, but Kevin cautions, “you can create while you wait.”

“If you don’t come to church,” Kevin Davis, Margie Santos and Joel Roman proclaim, “we will bring church to you,” in a way that humor, dance and songs uniting all who see it in “Love, Friendship and Community!”

ONE IN A MILLION: A NEW MUSICAL is coming to The Riverside Theater this September – And to God be the Glory – Amen!
